Neapolitan Brownie Ice Cream Cones

Nope. Look again. That's not ice cream.

Those are scoops of strawberry, vanilla and chocolate brownies - perfectly poised atop an ice cream cone with more brownie baked inside.

Earlier this year, I discovered an easy recipe for strawberry brownies. (By the way, they are delicious.) All you have to do to make flavored "brownies" is just add two eggs and 1/3 cup vegetable oil to any cake mix. Who knew? Obviously not me. But I do now. And with that, I was inspired to make these Neapolitan Brownie Ice Cream Cones

They look so cute in a cluster, and would make a perfect summer party treat. BONUS: they won't melt.

You can find the complete tutorial featured on Handmade Charlotte.

Go ahead. Treat yourself to a triple-scoop of brownies. This weekend is Summer Solstice - the official start of summer. I can't think of a better way to celebrate!

Ice Cream + Imagination

I had some fun with frozen treats last week, making ice cream cone bumblebees, ice cream bar penguins and ice cream sandwich lions. And if I'd had a larger freezer, I could have made an entire zoo. (Which would have resulted in a larger pant size too! I have a difficult time resisting frozen novelty treats of any kind.)

These clever ice cream characters would be a great dessert to serve at any animal-themed birthday party or zoo event. Just make them ahead of time and keep them in your freezer until you're ready to serve up a smile.

You can find my simple, step-by-step instructions for fun frozen treats at Handmade Charlotte.

Hope your summer has been sweet!

Cool Cats

I'm desperately clinging onto summer. Our kids go back to school this week, and soon the weather will turn chilly. I'm just not ready yet.

So before we trade in our swimsuits for snow boots, let's pause (paws) and make some fun, cat-faced ice cream sandwiches.

Why cats? Because the Dennelers are cat people. (Not that we're not dog people. We love dogs too. Just other people's dogs. In other people's houses. In fact, now that I think about it, I'm not that crazy about a cat in my house either. But I put up with it because my kids wanted a pet, and I'm not about to deprive them of the joy. So, I guess you could say I'm a cat tolerator.)

Wait..... Where was I? Oh, that's right: Cool Cats.

Wanna know the best part about these cat-shaped ice cream sandwiches? No baking or heating up your house. All you have to do is buy soft sugar cookies in the bakery section of the grocery store and make one cut with a round cookie cutter on top. Then decorate the faces, and sandwich some ice cream in between. The purrrrrfect summer-savoring treat.

Of course, I couldn't make only white and black cats. I had to make a calico version. Because we're not just cat people, we're calico cat people. (Meow, meow, meow and meow.)
