It wouldn't be a piñata without a candy surprise in the middle!
After baking these multi-striped, burro piñata sugar cookies, I frosted them together in sets of 3's. (The middle cookies have hollow centers so that I could insert a stash of mini M&M's.) That way, when you break open or bite into the cookie, the M&M's come spilling out. Just like a real piñata.
Olé!
I recently teamed up with SheKnows.com to make a complete tutorial for these cookies with lots & lots of helpful, step-by-step photos. Check it out here!

Viva la mexico. these are so adorable where did you get the cookie cutter? i wish i would have found these a couple weeks ago
Hey mireya....I just used a donkey cookie cutter. (The shape had two ears, but I just trimmed one off before I baked them.)
Glad you enjoyed them... Remember to try them next Cinco de Mayo for sure!
These are an amazing idea! I've never seen anything like it. I've decided to try these for my son's 1st bday. I'm going to do a trial run first though since I don't want to risk them not working out the day before! Any chance that you have a more detailed tutorial on the process? I've never made multi layered coloured cookies and am a bit nervous. Anything you can offer would be great!
Thanks for all your great ideas!

These are about the cutest cookies I have ever seen. How do you get the cookie dough striped in color like that? Any instructions you can offer would be sooo greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Kathy
I used a sugar cookie recipe called Ice Box Cookies. Here's a link to one by Martha Stewart.

But instead of rolling the colored doughs around each other, I stacked them in a narrow bread pan. That way, when I sliced the frozen cookie dough, the rectangles were striped.
Good luck!
These are super cool! Such a great job I had to tweet about it AND post it on FB! Super amazing!

~*I LOVE YOUR IDEA!*~ This is not only yummy looking but very very cool! :) Thank you for sharing it! :)
What a unique and clever idea and so great for Cinco de Mayo. They do seem like a bit of work, but the look on the faces of those who were lucky enough to eat them must have been priceless and totally worth it.
These cookies are adorable! Question, where do I get the recipe and instructions for the actual cookies?
Olivia - I just did a featured recipe for these on SheKnows.com! Here's the link:
